Red And Blue Betta Neglect

Acctually we do have a large display tank that always holds two full grown fancy goldies, if one gets sold then we buy other large ones in (they sell at £15-£20 each amazing specimins though). In this country (UK) it is illigal to sell live fish as purposefull feeder fish, at least you can't label them as feeder fish but what the customer does with them when they leave the shop we can't know  .

Does anyone ever notice at the LFS that all the red and blue bettas are either stacked behind the other colored bettas, or always the ones who are in worst shape. My LFS has about 50 red and blue bettas, where the other 50 are a mix of rainbow colors, all the red/blue are ill or hidden behind the rest because they are so common people overlook them.

Sure, other colors are nice, but dont neglect them due to color. If red/blue doesn't sell, dont purchase them for your store!

oh my Spikey Betta was red and blue, he got the name spikey cos he was housed with Guppies and his fins were really bad :/

Indeed, my grandfather used to buy goldfish, freeze them and then chop them in half and defrost when needed to feed his Moray eel ( not a nice way to kill them but that's how things were years ago )

I've seen some absolutely gorgeous specimen goldfish online. One chocolate butterfly Oranda was going for £100 from a Japanese seller . Stunning fish though

We had a platinum white ryukin that was paired with a calico ryukin fully grown, In the planted display they looked absoloutley beautiful (not bloomin cheap mind lol £50 for the pair) i'm a sucker for pretty fish, hence the bettas, my first tropical fish was a betta and they will always be special to me. Reds and Blues are gorgeouse all they need is a nice planted 5gal with some rocks and wood and any betta will look stunning in a natural enviroment :good:

The LFS near me only have the blue/red ones and no other colours and they only have 6 at the most :(

The local pet shop have one Betta. He was either black or blue and kept in a tiny breeding trap and looked miserable as sin.
The Aquatic Centre a few shops down have a few Betta's. Every other tank i went past seemed to have a male Betta. The majority were dark blue colour, some black, and two red. There was two that stuck out to me, one that looked black but had a green shine and this stunning red one (the other red wasn't in as nicer state, there was a Betta in the tank next to it and they looked stressed). I think i would probably have chosen the red one.

Most the local LFS's have reds and blues, one recently has peaches as well. I have one red VT as he was the last with the most beautiful turquoise eyes i have ever seen on a fish. I believe it is something to do with genetics and cost when it comes to why these stores buy them in? Cheaper as more readily available from stockists, someone gave me a lecture on it which was really interesting but for the life of me didnt contain it all in my head
