hi, i have a fluval 205 on my new tank which is 180l, the problem is that its not very clear?
to get the fluval to fit i had to put the inlet and outlet at the same end of the tank( will this affect filtration?)

so i am looking for some suggestions for a new external filter which is capable of keeping this tank nice and clear?

Tetratec EX1200.

59.99 delivered from Living Seas online.

Good quality filter at a cheap price.

Search it on here, it has a lot of recommendations.

Cheers, Andy.

my fluval 205 is doing a brilliant job with the pipes next to each other in a 260l tankbut the output is at the top and the intake much lower if it is new give it 2 weeks to settle down before critising the filter as the gravel will be dirty however much you cleaned it.

the 205 is only rated up to 200litres and manufacturers specifications for filters are somewhat hopefuly IMHO.

while yes, it may clear in a few days, the filter's gonna be strained to the max to keep up with it. Really you should always over filter if possible so i wouldn't recommend the 205 for anything much above 150litres. Just my opinion though.

Personally I'd go for an Eheim, can't remember the models off the top of my head, but pick one that's rated for around 300litres and that'll do fine. The tetra tec i've heard good things about but have no personal experience of. Rena's are also good bargain filters but a tad noisy.

thanks for the helpful reply, the 205 is not new and i am using sand instead of gravel, could this be why?
also the flow from the outlet pipe is not very strong is there anything that can be done to improve it?

I also recommend the TetraTec EX1200. I recently replaced my Fluval 205 with one about 3 days ago and my tank is crystal clear now. It's also much much quieter than the Fluval 205. The 205 just couldn't handle a 108l tank which I found strange but the EX1200 is brilliant.

I paid £118 for mine from the LFS, but I just could not cope with the levels in my tank and needed a new filter ASAP.

Push the big black lever on the pump bit down as far as it will go

I've had the tetratec for a couple of week now and i would recommend it. Got it from living seas for £59.99. Great value bargain, loads of media all the stuff you need to set it up.
