I am receiving 4 betta's in the mail tomorrow, via 3 day shipping.

I am wondering whether I should just put them into their tanks straight away, or properly acclimate them? Especially since they are being heaved around a lot and in the end the stress of the new tank might be better than making them wait any longer.

Thoughts?

Definitely acclimate them properly. :)

Float the unopened bags in the new tanks for at least 15 minutes to let the temperatures even out. Then, over a period of at least 30 minutes, add water a bit of tank water to the bag. When you release the betta, make sure not to get any of his old water into the tank.

I just wasn't sure if the water levels in the bags would be so spikey that I should release them right away. I guess 3 days is not too bad.

I usually pour the contents of the bag (including betta) into a clean, warm bowl or tupperware container. I then add some of the tank water to the bowl bit by bit, then net him out and into the tank he goes. This allows him not only to get used to the water, but to have clean, fresh air to breath as he does it, and a bit more room.

Thanks, I will do that.

My mother will be home an hour before me, so hopefully when they arrive she will listen to my note and wait for me to take care of them. This is, afterall, the infamous woman who put my first Betta in a 20 gallon tank with two 5 inch goldfish.

what happen to the betta ???
He had clamped fins and hid near the filter. I came home and basically lectured my mother on the keeping of these fishies and now she knows better. He is fine and has been with me for awhile now.

Well, I received them today, finally. Two days later... Thanksgiving made it hard.

They are all in good shape, and in 2 gallon bowls until they gain their strength back, then they will be in a 5 gallons (I have a few 10 gallons I am splitting in half).

Gorgeous fish, and much, much smaller than my boys. Either they are very young or my guys are very large.

2 male CTs, 1 male blue steel VT, and 1 male copper DT.

They were sent to me by a girl who could not keep them anymore.
