hi i just got a new 130liter tank with an Aqua Nova NCF-1500 external filter. I havent started my cycle yet cause that plus lights and tank are all ive got. (im getting gravel heater air pump etc tomorrow) Ive decided that i would like a community tank with Maybe some clown loaches, serpae tetras, bleeding heart tetras, zebra danios, platy's and maybe a bristlenose catfish. Would these fish go together. as well as this do you guys have any hints and tips for starting and what other combinations of fish would go well in my tank.

Thanks Guys

Your tank works out to about 34 gallons.
I'm afarid Clown Loaches will get too big for your tank so I'd leave getting any of those.
Zebra Danios are very active and known to be fin nippers so it might be worth leaving those too, I've heard the same thing about Serpae Tetras but I'd double check with other members.
Bleeding Heart Tetras are beautiful fish but they grow to about 3" and ideally need to be kept in a group of 6+. A good alternative would be Rosy Tetras, very similar looking and only grow to about 2".
Bristlenose Plecos are also a great addition but I wouldn't add one for a while until your tank has matured a little. You also need to provide bogwood and hiding places if you get one.
Harlequin Rasboras are a great community fish and grow to about 2", also best kept in a group of 5-6.
A lot depends on what sort of community you are after. Are you looking for a peaceful one or something a little more active?

If active is what you want, then danios will be just the ticket. Aim for a school of at least 6-8. With a bristlenose, that should still leave you room for one more school of something. I'd look into golden barbs. Keep the temperature at the lower range of the bristlie's tolerance, to keep the danios happy.

My suggestion for this tank would be: a shoal of barbs or rasboras, some bottom dwellers (I personally love the corydora trilineatus; lovely and very active! but you can also think of some type of loach), and a pair of rams or other new world cichlids (no discus though!).

This page gives you great info and suggestions on types of fish: http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/community.html. It is said though that they're stocking calculator leads to overstocking.....

Good luck and let me know what you're getting, since I will be having a similar size tank coming in next week!
