Hello,

I have just arranged to give away my goldfish and comets to someone with a pond. They will be going on Sunday and they may take the golden orfes as well (the have a bend, not sure how they'd do in a pond).

Anyway here's my plans:

37UK Tank (48" x 12" x 12")

Fluval 4+ filter for now, will be getting a Eheim Ecco 2233 or similar
Sand
Wood
Plants (perhaps not right away)

12 cories - 8 peppered, 2 albino, 2 bronze
6 barbs - 2 green, 2 tiger, 1 rosy, 1 albino (if cannot be rehomed)
4 otos
2 Benitochromis nigrodorsalis
2 weather loaches
1 rainbow shark
1 male krib (for now, may set up home for him and my female when he grows)

16UK Tank (26"x12"x13" - LxWxH)

Fluval Biolife Filter (inbuilt)
Sand
Plant Pots

2 golden orfes (if they cannot be rehomed)
4 hillstream loaches

23UK Tank (30"x12"x18")

Eheim Ecco 2233 or similar
Sand
Wood
Caves
Lots of plants

3 Penguin Tetra
2 Albino Kribs (male and female ;))
2 Blue Limia (male and female)
2 Female Mollies

71UK Tank (60"x18"x18")

2 Eheim Ecco 2233 filters
Sand
Lots of Wood
Plants
Caves

5 SFF
4 Clown Loaches
4 Angel Fish
4 Kuhli Loaches
4 X-Ray (pristella) tetra
2 Cardinal Tetra
2 USD catfish
2 Glass Catfish
1 Male Sailfin Molly
1 Silver Hatchetfish
1 Kissing Gourami (if cannot be rehomed)
1 Golden Gourami
1 Boesmani Rainbowfish (if cannot be rehomed)
1 Farlowella Catfish
1 L134 Plec
1 L052 Plec

What do you think? I am really worried about my 71UK being overstocked at present as well as the goldfish not being suitable for the tank. I would like to give away the barbs, kissing gourami and rainbowfish to suitable homes but that may not be possible at the moment.

All of the above is being done without buying any fish at all.

I am still woried that I might have too much in the 37UK tank, so any opinions on the arrangement will be very welcome (constructive critisism only please ;)).

i thought that might of been for my benefit ;)

6 tiger barbs - 2 green, 2 tiger, 1 rosy, 1 albino (if cannot be rehomed)

i dont quite follow this bit.. should that say just barbs and not tiger barbs?

let me have my tea then first ;)

I don't know much about many of the fish you have listed (such as goldfish, and many of the cats), but here's a couple of things that strike me about your lists:

37UK tank -- seems like an awful lot of bottom-dwellers you have listed.

71UK tank -- only 2 cardinals? I would guess you'd hardly ever see them, as they'd probably hide in the plants all the time.

Hmmmm

I will not have any goldfish! I know all about cardinals 'needing' to be in groups but mine seem ok, I can see them both now in fact. I am looking to reduce the umber of fish in the tank, not increase it just yet! Not saying I will never add fish but I am wondering if the tanks will be pverstocked.

I know the obvious things like what fish need to be in groups but I also know that not all fish are the same and that my tanks are currently overcrowded. Have a look at my signature.

As I said, it's all fish that I already have not that I am looking to buy.

It may be a lot of bottom dwellers in the 37UK but as cories are schooling, I see this as a good thing.

Oops, my mistake. For some reason, I thought "golden orfes" was a type of fancy goldfish.

And the 37UK tank could probably be fine; just giving my impression of the list, and sort of noting that you'd probably have to do some pretty heavy bottom-feeding.

Thanks for your imput,

An orfe is a coldwater fish but it is not a goldfish. I always feed my bottom feeders, I don't like to think of people just letting them scavenge. I always feed bloodworm, plec tablets and catfish pellets to them so there won't be a problem with them getting food.

The 37UK has currently got 7 goldfish and 2 orfes and the water parameters are good so when they are gone and there's tropicals in the parameters should be even better, especially as I am going to buy a new filter.

Just spoke to the womean who is re-homing the goldfish and she has agreed to take the golden orfes as well!!

It's great because I can make a really good tank for the hillstreams. Probably my fish biotope!!

Now I need to find ot what they'll like most. Fast flowing and smooth surfaces I bet!

Looks fine to me providing you keep on top of water changes and monitor the parameters. Glad someone could take the Orfes and best of luck with your new little Hillstream Loach tank.
