is it a good or bad sign if i have algae growing in my tank

i have finished doing daily water changes cos the readings were bad... going to continue doing alternate days water changes for a week then test agan at LFS.


any advice welcome........

algae shows that the conditions for plant life are good, it is also good becasuse quite a few fish eat it. however it does mean that there is probably more nitrites in the water than there should be if there is more algae than normal.

sara, don't worry there aren't any stupid questions
algae isn't too bad if you can keep it under control.
it could also be a sign of excess phosphates.
try to get your own test kit it helps if you don't have to keep running to the lfs.

As long as the algae is alive (green) it is good
Dead algae take up oxygen and too much might kill the fish!
