Hi folks, at the moment I have a tetra tec air pump running on my vision 180, but the flaming thing is a noisy little bugger. I have to stick it inside a drawer to quieten it down and its still noisy.

So does anyone know of a good make that is really quiet, or are they all as bad. My tank is in my bedroom so at night time you can hear it easily.

cheers chish

personally I've found the tetratec one to be quiet
I'm also a fan of the clearseal air pumps but their diaphrams
need replacing yearly (at least the 3 pumps I've used have needed it that often),
which adds to the over all cost.

I would think that tank has enough surface movement with the other installed gear, therefore the quietest solution possible, no air-pump.

I agree with Wolf; my current Tetra Tek is the quietest pump I've ever had! Did you check to make sure the pump or hte airlnie coming out isn't vibrating up against something? Are all four little rubber feet intact?

christine: I will check to make sure, cheers for the haeds up.

Lateral line: do you think I wouldn't need one, if I fitted the spray bar to the filter outlet pipe, that would increase airiation wouldn't it?

then I could stick the air pump on the tank I have downstairs

cheers chish

a spray bar would give plenty or aireation (sp?)
i wouldnt bother with a pump if you install 1 :)

Spray bars can be noisy as well, but if you place it below the surface, angled slightly up, you will generate huge movement.

Have you tried hanging it? I have one that runs an 18in air stone in my 55 gallon....it gives the fish someplace to play, and they do seem to like hanging out over there. But...the air pump noise was going to drive me insane after about 5 minutes of running it. So, I hung a nail in my stand and put the pump on it. Now, you can't even hear it hanging around back there. And my computer desk is right behind the tank. :D
