Ratty Cages

Use lino rather than fleece - you can buy a short length from any DIY store and it's usually anti-bacterial - this is much easier to keep clean as it won't get sodden with urine and can be wiped down daily. You can cable-tie it onto the shelf if your ratties try and pull it up.

as long as the rats have hammocks and the substrate is not left as plastic so has paper or something else on it then your rats feet should be fine and not get bumble foot they only really get it when they are constantly on bars or hard surfaces but yeah it would not hurt to cover them in something :good: fleece will get smelly really fast so vicki and kevs idea is a good one :)

cage wise i used to have one a bit like the super pet one it was a pain in the beehind to clean but the rats seemed to love it and i could move the platforms around (dont knwo fi you can on that one) which made it fun to change

i dont realyl like the look of the f11 cage would be easy to clean but i for some reason does not tickly my fancy :p

i would either go for the rene one or the super pet one personally :)

Ok thanx, so just cut the lino to the right size and use something to hold it in place?
I assume the ladders would be ok as wire ones?
I have been thinking about possibly taking them out and using some of those plastic corner shelves and lots of climbing toys. The link is the type of cage i mean.

you oculd either way it down with something on the shelf or paperclip it to the side or tie it down somehow

with a cage with all wire like that then yes cover the shelfs in lino will benefit your rats feet

and do you mean these sorts of shelfs? http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/catalog/ferplast-corner-shelf-grey-fits-wire-cages-p-376.html

these are the ones in my big big cage and they are a nice size :)

You can make a little hole in each corner and use plastic zip-ties/cable ties to fasten it to the shelf. The ramps are much better as wire to allow grip :)
For youngsters - taking out the original level and using ferplast corner shelves and hammocks and ropes and such would probably be much better appreciated! I would keep the original level though as this is much better for oldies that are less able (or less willing) to climb.

Vague ones yes, i can figure out how to put it up its just the last "pin" for the sides that wont go in lol

as long as it dont fall down its fine XD i had at least 15 pieces of plastic left over from mine and it aint fallen down yet after nearlly 3 years lol

Ash

Yeah but i cant get the last pin more than 1/4 down lol

Like I said on my first post :p the pins rarely line up properly, a combination of brute force and pliers usually works though.
