Noooo,

finished cleaning my 2nd hand Eheim 2229, turned it on and now the pump head rattles and doesn't suck any water up :-( :-( is my pump head dead? I've looked around the impellor assembly and nothing seems to have broken off looks loose so am I right to assume that the pump itself has to be replaced?

Thanks
Hank

I'm not familliar wtih this particular model, however, I've had this in the past with my Juwel pump. I found that it gets an air block which I used to clear by opening up the impeller casing with the pump running. Easy with a Juwel.

right well, I think it probably is air in the pump head (phew, thought I was gonna have to shell out £90 for a new pump head), my JBL filter started to do the same thing and I followed some easy steps in the manual to sort it out. Problem is, the eheim filter doesn't have a valve to let air out. Anyone know how to do it with an ehaim?

Hiya!

Try filling the filter body up with tank water as far as it will go without causing mass spillage when the lid is put on. Then, once the lid is on, turn the unit on, and try lifting the unit up, and tilting it carefully from side to side. You may find that you need to almost turn it over to get the air out! Be careful, don't pull the hoses out of the tank!
