Rare Shark Caught On Camera

you can see where the old sailors sea serpant stories came from seeing that.its probably not the first one to make it to the surface in all the years people have been sailing the oceans.

I want one... I'll need some hardware to simulate water pressure... that or get a 600 meter tall tank...

It would be the easy part to just pressurize a large cube/rectangular prism tank to hold this guy... the problem would be how to do you have inlet and outlets for filtration and water changes and allow food to be put into the tank. With those come the problem of keeping it pressurized. But I bet that would be a cool engineering project for my senior design! Sweet :hey:

Posts like these are truly wonderful and refreshing (after all the odd fishbowl shape posts). WTG for bringing this to our attention. SH

poor things died though :-(

It was probably already half dead. With the pressure difference between the surface where it was caught and where it lives, its body was going crazy with the lack of pressure. Deep sea creatures who live at depth depend on the pressure and if it is gone, then its body can't function. Like the article said, it was probably sick so it had floated up to the surface to die.

Still sad, but would of suprised me more if it didnt die within a few hours

yeah i know

amazing we get a chance to see the footage, but just so sad it's under such tragic circumstances and that no one could help

I heard that it had actually died during capture.... but you are right, it would probably have died anyway.

If it hadnt have been so ill then normally you wouldnt have seen it at all, as it lives so far down man cant see it in its true environment.
Maybe it was old? It certainly looked half dead in the footage.
