Hey all! I am brand-spankin new to these forums but not all that new to keeping tanks. I've been keeping trpical tanks off an on now since I was about 15 and have only recently (2 years or so) been keeping up with tropical fish keeping seriously. Anyway, I had just recently had to clear out my whole tank due to my last fish, a gold gourami, die of something odd. I have no clue what it was. With the tank cleaned and established I went out and bought 6 new fish. 3 Danios, 2 mollies and 1 platy. Now it's my platy that came as a huge surprise to me.

I rarely ever buy fish at wal-mart. I think it's been over a year and half since I've purchsed fish from that huge chain-line store but yesterday when I was getting some new food my eyes caught this gorgeous pure white male platy. I almost walked away telling myself that I shouldn't buy him because of the problems my wal-mart has been having with keeping fish but I couldn't pass him up. I ended up getting him and he seems to be doing wonderfully in the tank. I added him into the water at the same time as the rest of my fish and all seems well. He's quite happy to swim around out in the open. Until I pull out my camera that is. I did manage to snap two shots of him as he poked out from behind the plants. I plan on finding him a female or two when I go to visit a few local pet shops. Is a white platy rare? I must admit I am not use to keeping them I've been more into gouramis until recently. OH! And if anyone has any name suggestions for this fella I'd really appreciate it. :)

very nice! i am looking for a pure black and some other colours as i have got 1 dalmation mollie, 1 red/orange/black scruffy looking one

6 orange with black tail platties
1 swordtail orange plattie
and one seethrough plattie

do like the white one though very nice

Is that a Platy? It kind of looks like a Molly to me. It's hard to tell though. Do you have more pictures?

Heh, seems someone spotted something I didn't right away. I just searche dup mollies and platies. (Seeing as I've never had either before) and it seems I've confused the two. I thought my molly was a platy and vice versa. This little guy is actually a molly. I am going to attempt to take some more pictures now if he'll let me. I am telling you this fella is camera shy.

And here's another picture though it's really bad. I can't seem to get a good clear pic of him.

Looks like a Molly to me. Silver Mollies are not uncommon, but still great fish. If you notice, the fish is much longer and it's nose comes to a much finer point. For taking better pictures, lights off in the room and blinds closed so you have a dark room. Tank lights on. Try a macro settings on your camera. Avoid zooming. It also helps to have all lights off and flip the tank lights on after a half hour. The fish are "sleepy" and less likely to move during the picture.

Heehee, don't feel bad, I'm up to...12 adult mollies and all of them will come up and interact with me until I pull out the camera...then suddenly they're gone.

You could get a black molly and name the white one Salt and, the black one Pepper. :p
