Hi

I am thinking of getting a couple of Rams. Can anyone give me any information about these fish, or does anyone here own them.

Someone told me to only get one as two may fight.

Cheers
Andy.

Yes if you dont know how to sex them, only get 1 as to males will fight.

Will the fish be ok by itself? I always think its a bit mean keeping just one of a particular breed.

Als are they ok with bettas?

Cheers
Andy.

You can keep them by themselves or buy 3 or 4 so then u will have a female, im not sure about the betta though.

I wouldn't mix them with bettas just because both fish are so aggressive.

I wouldn't keep Rams and Betta's together. Even though Rams are very peaceful... You could have a few squables between the two.

Here is some information on German Blue Rams Click Here

The German Blue's are really nice  ! However they are some what sensitive and need a mature tank to call home. From personal experience I enjoy the Bolivian Rams the most. They are pretty much they same just a little more larger, a little hardier, (unfortunately not as colorful) but still full of personality :D .

Hope this helps you out! :good:

i agree, don't mix bettas and rams. my betta is in a 10 next to the 29 with my rams and him and the male ram are always making angry faces when they happen to see one another.

sorry I meant to say bettas are so aggressive... my bad!

Still, understand that the picture in Sand Man's link on Bolivian rams is of a female. You should start off with them since they are hardier and less demanding of Amazonic conditions. Still, I've lost two out of three that I bought, so you should have a decent amount of experience and soft, acidic water before trying them. By the way, the enjoy the tannins from a bed of leaves at the bottom of the tank, so you should start collecting now. You have to remove them every few weeks, though, of they will rot.

I keep a pair of Rams with Betta without problem. Its like with all fish, you will know your fish's temprement. deceide on that fact. Also make sure you get 1 Male and 1 Female nothing else.

i have a pair of boulovian rams there nice peaceful fish and never harm any of the other tank inhabitants, although they do quarell amongstest each other from time to time (male and female)

they also follow your hand around the glass  (simple things please simple minds)
