Are there any ramms that would be suitable for a high ph of 7.8 and hard water. id like to get dutch rams because theyre small and colourfull but i was told by my lfs i would need RO water to keep them.

I don't use RO water for my rams but my PH is lower than yourd at 7.0 -_- Maybe they will adjust to your PH i don't know it seems a little high :/

i was reading about peat it lowers the ph i think can someone confirm this also do i spread it on my filter pads and will Rams get on with my Dwarf gourami, harleguin rasboaras, albino catfish?

Peat will definitly lower your PH.
It should be around 6.5 - 6.8

Rams should definitly get along with those fish, what size tank do you have?

i have a 84litre tank how much will peat lower the ph by? and how much do i put in? and where do i put it ? also are there any side affects and i was told peat wouldnt do anything damm lfs!! and would all fish be ok to have it in the tank?

i think your rams wil be just fine, ive got dutch rams and my area has got hard water, my rams are ok. :hey:

Rams like soft water. That's why the lfs reccomend RO. if your tap water is not too hard, peat will do the job.
If you don't have peat, you can use a peice of drift wood. Just put it in your tank. The tannin from the peat or drift wood will soften the water and can act as ph buffer. I have also heard ppl are able to keep ram in hard water or high PH. Its natural habitat, however, has soft and a little acidic water.
