I am planning to get two german rams, a male and a female probably, but I dont really want them to breed. Is it ok if they have the eggs and my other fish will eat them, or will the rams get pissed?

I have had terrible trouble trying to sex blue Rams.....i am still not sure if i have a pair!!!

If you have a male and female they may breed and they can get quite agressive to other fish when they do, so you might find some of the babies surviving.

Apparently it can take afew tries before they get it right and they can be picky with their water quality...i have had no problems with my two (except that one seems to bully the other) so far...

I dont want them to breed if they will be aggressive to other fish. Anything I could do?

They will be agressive in the manor that they will protect their eggs and babies....if you get a male and female I think you will have the aggression problem...no way around it i am afraid as far as I know....

Only solution I can think of is to just get one but cichlids by nature are agressive from what I can make out...

Rams are peaceful so one shouldnt be aggressive I think. So for my solution for two of them, do I get two males or two females instead of a pair?

Two males will definately fight and I am not sure about two females. Someone else might be able to help with that one..

Mine are kept around 80-82.

Have a look on the internet...there should be more general information on there or if you have a look under "search" and type in blue rams something might come up on this forum.

Hope this helps.

Hello there. If I had to make a suggestion I would go with two females. The reason for this is because I have heard that males tend to be the more aggressive gender of the cichlids. But I would see what everyone else has to say about this first.

I have 2 females one of which is more dominant than the other but they dont fight - the more dominant one chases the other occasionally but for the most part they get on well together and no problems with any other fish.

I would highly recommend them- they are such characters and do recognize their owners! Mine rush over to snails as soon as they see me and stop in front of them and stare to show me where they are. I put my hand in and squish them - then they eat them from my hand!
