For those of you who have read some of my posts you will know that I put 5 blue rams in a ten gallon tank. I thought I had all males and I am getting them a bigger tank. Like a 29 within a few weeks. I noticed today that two are rubbing on rocks and they have eggs!!! There is the largest ram in my tank who has really long dorcal spikes but are kind of dull black and a really small ram with long dark black dorcal spikes. It's so hard to sex them. But I know I have at least one female!!! I think that I must be doing a good job if they are breeding in a week! They chase off the other fish except one. They let it come up and look at the eggs and then it swims away. They are constantly fanning the eggs and rubbing them with their bodies. They laid the eggs in an indention in some lava rock. I have a piece of smooth stone for that purpose but they didn't use it.

that's great!
Mine layed eggs, and I got so excited- and they ate them... then I was sad...
watch them carefully...I thought my female was 'cleaning' the eggs- wrong...she was 'eating' the eggs...so, if you want to watch them hatch, and grow...I say scoop the eggs and put them in another tank or someplace safe (like a net- with good water flow over them)...
Congratulations! They're fun to watch!

hmm... i heard its better to let the mother do her usual cichlid thing, take care of the fry otherrwise it may lose its ability to take care of its future fry...
