i just bought 4 gold Rams. i want to try to breed them but dont no exactly how. my water ph is about 6.8 and the temperature is 78 degrees f. plenty of plants and wood. is this good enough for them or should add slate, and how do you sex them? also would i also be able to put in blue rams also, or willl they crossbreed. if they crossbreed i don't want to do that. they are in a 29 gallon with great filtration and with juli corys and neon tetras.
Thanks,
Ryan.

I think the Blues will crossbreed with them.

I found that mine never spawned on driftwood, only rocks. Put in some slate or smooth rounded stones and it should work out. Also, raise your water temperature to 80-81 degrees F. I don't know if such high temperature is good for cories though? Feed them nice fatty protein foods to get them into breeding condition. I gave mine freeze dried blood worms 3 times daily and that seemed to do the trick.

If you do get a pair, don't bother taking the other 2 rams out, unless one of them is male. Once a pair spawns, the other females ignore the pair completely and do not bother the fry either. It should also help in triggering the Ram's instinct to care for their eggs too.

Lastly, I would try to place the stones in a place in the tank where there is good water current from your filter. I found that if they spawned in an area of my tank with low circulation the eggs would get fungus quickly.

Good luck

the top fin at the front has three very prominent spikes for a male the second spike is the longest and the females second spike is shorter than the third blue and gold rams more than likely WILL inter breed just got a few blues myself
