So I went outside one morning and there were a bunch of evidence that frogs were having fun in my youngers sibling's kiddie pool the previous night. So my mother decided it would be a learning experience for the younger kids to hatch the frog eggs and watch the tadpoles grow. So a clump of eggs went into a 5 gallon tank and they just hatched... into about 30 tiny tadpoles. Of course the geniuses that we are, we have no idea how to care for these tadpoles now, though with the help of google I think i'm supposed to boil some lettuce and give it to them when they get a little older(?), and I know that their water should be completely free of chlorine. Other than that, we don't know anything about these little guys. I think i'm going to release about half of the bunch right away into the large lake by our house because one website said that if there's too many they will eat each other, and I doubt only a 5 gallon is big enough for 30 frogs-to-be. So to make a long story short... I need help, bad.

Oh, and another thing, is it possible to feed these to my betta fish? :*)

Firstly, they are cannabals, so expect lots of deaths.
To minimise this they will need a constant supply of other live foods such as daphnia and live bloodworm
They may take flake, but it depends on their species.

Try getting some frozen rotifers from the fish store if you can find them. Frogs ARE carnivores, even tadpoles, and you'll need meat. Rotifers for smaller tadpoles (tiny ones), and daphnia for larger tadpoles.

be careful as they will start to eat each other when they get big enough to so expect alot of half eaten/dead frogs -- the qicker u can put them in a pond/send them to a home the better it will be they will eat flaked fish food but be careful as they might become dependent on them

Never heard of rotifers before today and then they come up on my university exam paper (the question was explaining how they reproduce, which is quite hard to answer when you don't know what they are :) ) and now you mention them. I believe wwe means "yolk" :) good luck with the tadpoles.

A fiend of ours feeds chopped up lettice and a slice of ham on a bit of string. :)

the lettice is gone in munutes - the ham lasts a day or 2 before he changes it :)

He's raising some at the moment in a bath tub in his garden :D

Okie dokie, yolk, lettuce and ham I can do. Mom asked me what rotifers were and I was like :dunno: . And we are dirt poor at the moment, unable to even buy lightbulbs for my 2.5 gallon tanks, so we wouldn't be able to get special tadpole foods.

The critters are still feeding off their yolk sacs, so when should I put in the other foods? A couple days? :/ I think this requires more googling. Does anyone know of a site that I you could point me toward?
