my small rainbow shark (2 inches maybe) is chasing around my tetras like theres no tomorrow. can i put him in my cichlid tank? (theyre all small. same size or smaller than him) or should i put him in my isolation tank for a while? and will he act better if i put him back after being isolated or will he be the same?

I would def say know based on the fact that your species of african fish (malawis) would probably mutilate the little guy. Rainbow sharks are from a different part of the world and require different tank parameters than african fish. Assuming that your buffer your pH to 8.2 to help your africans thrive, that pH is too high for the rainbow.

When you put him back in from isolation he will probably act the same. They can be a bit territorial. It gets worse as they get bigger. I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's probably best to rehome him. It will spare you problems later on.

Ruby sharks require a boisturas community like barbs etc. i did read up that you can have them in a peaceful community but you need to put them in last which can reduce them chasing fish around there territory. i was thinking of getting one of these fish for my future tanks but hearing that you are risking your peaceful fish by being chased then i had to disagree on getting them :( . When did you add your ruby shark (last or first before you bought more fish for your stocking

he was the most recent one i added, been over a month since any before him. but theres only one cave in the tank and the other fish are corys tetras and guppies who dont claim territory so i guess it became his by default

im gonna give him one more chance and if he doesnt get along i guess im gonna have to rehome him til i get my next tank :/ he was my favorite fish in there too

It's always a favorite fish that causes a problem. Why can't it be one we don't like?

has it killed any tetras

nah. hes not bothering the neons, but the larger red tetra i have (sarpae or something). usually when a fish gets chased its just once across the tank, but he chases him back and forth non stop like back and forth across the tank 20 times in a row
