i saw a small rainbow fish the other day ,it had a clear body with a red head and blue eyes, it also had yellow fins ,the pair of front fins seemed very high and had yellow tops that made it look like it had little arms, does anyone know what these are?

Threadfin Rainbowfish ?

i dont think its any of them, it couldnt of been a threadfin because they def had some there and looked completely diffrent, they are so much more colourful, they had very distinctive little arms above their heads

Sounds like a Pseudomugil species. These have extended wing like pectoral fins. Pseudomugil furcatus is the most commonly seen species.

They are fairly typical rainbows. Prefer slightly harder and alkali water, but are pretty adaptable. They do not tolerate pollution, so water quality is more important then conditions.

There are numerous species of Pseudomugil, they will all interbreed with each other, thus it you should not keep more then one species in a tank, (or keep single sex groups). Breeding is typical rainbow. The eggs take ages to hatch, (like 2 weeks or more), many a spawning has been lost because they have simply been chucked away. Small fry with the problems that creates, and like other rainbows, I found the fry "stick" after a couple of weeks and really don't grow at all - they cath up later though.

Most of the "blue eyes" as this group are called are small fish. P. furcatus is typically a 50-60mm fish. I did have a female which grew to about 70mm which is big, (normally the males are larger).
