Is rain water ok to use in a tropical fish tank? :dunno:

Well, most articles on rain water are really old

I would say to only use rain water once in a while to spruce up water conditions

It does lower ph if enough is added

O yea, rain does not have much bleach, chlorine........
just be careful not to use too much

As long as you live in an area where polution levels are low rain water is a viable source of aquarium water. Before I moved to an inner-city area and lived out in the country I used rain water as my only source of water for over 3 years in my 3ft community tank. Also make sure there is no contamination from where you collect it, a rain butt on a garden shed was how I used to collect mine!

I always use rain water and tap water mix in my discus tank and have done for about 2 1/2 years with no ill effects. In theory it can get contaminated by airbourne polution if you live in are large town. Just be careful to buffer the ph with some harder water to stop ph crashes.

Make sure you catch the rain from the sky and not for water dripping off the roof or trees (sounds silly but I have seen frustrated people do this)
