I dont think alfie is well :(
I was combing his fur and LOTS of hair was coming off his face. His long winter coat, then underneath his short summer coat appeared.But... he has a small bald patch on his head, and his hair is falling out loads!!!
Other than that he is his normal perky self.

What does this mean?

Anyone else experiencing the molt already?

Could be a parasite? Lots of the drop-on meds and the hutch sprays kill most types, so wouldnt hurt to try.

Well he is actually an indoor rabbit.

He is 2 years old now, and was an indoor rabbit for 1 1/2 years, then for about 4 months he stayed in his hucth, but then i decided to bring him back in again.

He does go out though everyday for his daily exercise.

Parasite eh? i was thinking about taking him to the vet, but tbh Alfies vet has no idea about rabbits.

Will google it and follow on from there. Thanks :)

Oh no, not Alfie  I don't know much about Rabbits, but would think this is the normal time for a moult of winter fur. Could he be lacking in certain minerals/vitamins?

Yes Alfie :(

Well he gets fed pelleted food, Excel (the one that vets reccomend) So his feeding is fine. He gets lots of fruit and veg throughout the day too.

I did look up parasites and think it may be that. I have got a Rodent shampoo made by jhonsons, which is used to clean there fur aswell as killing any insects etc. I will give him a bath tonight! Wish me luck!

Oh please take some photos, that is something I want to see, Alfie having a bath

Get some Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) powder, and take a pinch and sprinkle it onto each serving of food, in the mean time take him to the vet to check for mites, parasites, fleas, disease etc.

It could be a parasite. Rabbits can get lice.
Also if you have central heating he could have skin complaint. Drying of the skin.
Or the warm heating could think it's spring.

Is he a Lop by any chance?

Myrabbit used to moult so much that he lost ALL his fur and looked shaved before his summer coat came back, he had great patches missing all over him inbetween!

At this time of year, i'd put my money on him moulting due to central heating being on,m to him, it will have felt very hot, dry and summery...

LOl, yep the heating does be on most of the time, and his litter tray is next to it. But is bed is on the otherside of the room.

He does 'sweat' between his ears though, so maybe he does think its Spring already... Bless him :)

He has had his bath, and i have searched for lice, etc. But saw nothing.

Nope hes not a Lop rabbit. Hes and english cross with normal ears. If you want to see pics og him, feel free to click the link in my signature :)

Haha, now that will be tricky

Im going to wash him once evry 2 weeks or so now. So will try next time. But i will most likely end up getting the camera completley soaked, as he acts like a complete loony when he gets water on him!
