Quiting a noisy filter

How can I do it?

It's a hang-on/overflow type.

Do you know what is making it noisy? That would help a lot. Such as, is it the impeller, the lid, the actual water flowing out, what?

I believe it is the impeller, it's defiantly not the water flowing out.

Have you tried just jiggling it around to get it in a slightly different position? Or perhaps you need to take it out and clean it. One thing you could always use as a last resort is "greasing" it with a tiny bit of vaseline.

when my impeller was making noise, i took it apart and stuck a little piece of paper in the hole on the fan part. Now i can barely hear it

On my hydroponics I cut a small piece of airline tubing and put it behing the washer by the impellar, silent as any thing..........havn't needed to do that to the tanks yet I think the small pink fish is a dwarf Gourami, could b wrong though
