hey all
what other vegetables can i feed my BNs other thna cucumber?
like would they eat potatos or other things?
thnaks

Almost anything is worth trying. Cucumber has virtually no nutrition anyway. Try courgette (zucchini), sweet potato, carrot, sliced marrow, sliced turnips and parsnip, blanched lettuce, broccoli stems, blanched dandelion leaves, spinach leaves, cooked peas, melon rind. Some people do feed plecs potatoes but mine never liked them. Some things will be eaten at once, others will need to soften up for a day or two. Carrots last for days, and are a great food to give a plec if you're going away on holiday.

Also, don't forget actual algae, either the real thing or algae pellets ("plec food").

One other thing: bogwood. Often overlooked. While most plecs can't digest the stuff (only Panaque spp. can do that) many use it as a source of deitary fibre. A small piece of bogwood won't cost much, and will last a bristlenose for years.

Cheers, Neale

Hi jmaster - you've been quiet lately...

Have a look through your older posts - If i remember rightly you'll find you got a lot of answers about breeding bristles and how to feed them ;)

What have you got in the way of breeding places?
If you need any tips making caves of what to use let us know ;)

hey smithrc i only just started coming back on here recntly been quit busy
ok then il have a look
for cave i hav a plant pot, and a few plastic pipes they ok?
well if u could giv me any tips on makin other caves that would be great coz i really do want to try so hard to breed these now and i just bought two really nice big females for my male today both females are bout 3-4inch and both quit plump
is it ok if the famels are bigger than the male?
thanks

what is the best type of cave for BNs to breed in coz atm my male doesnt use any??
also just wondered but is it a sgn of breeding if the male and female are together alot?
thanks

we use homemade slate caves (that I happen to sell if your interested)
size wise they are approx 120mm x 25mm x 40mm
We've had great sucess form all our plecs in them (including the zebs)
With our original bristlenoses - they used to use 35mm PVC tubing...

As for behaviour... when he's ready - he'll take possesion of a cave and stay in it - he'll the lure a female and trap her in it to spawn ;)

ok then thanks
jpw much are these caves you sell? and do u post
thanks

ok then thanks
il let you know as soon as possible if il have some
chances are i will just gota check my money as im out of work now
