I currently have a 55 gallon fresh water tank running on a Penguin 330. The fish tank is situated in my bedroom, but the sound of the filter's motor makes it hard for me to have some peace. Can anyone give me some advice on the quietest filtration system I can find? Yet I am also I'm looking for something that is best bang for the buck.

I have an external eheim 2026 which fits inside the cabinet. No sound at all but maybe the cabinet helps. I'd recommend it anyway.

all my Whisper power filters are ultra quiet. when they are properly maintained you can barely hear them.

I have three Eheim professionel II pumps, a 2026, a 2028 and a 2128. The 2026 would be perfect for your tank.

They are the best filters out there, the 2026 is in a cabinet under my 200 liter tank and you have put your ear up to the door to hear it !

The 2028 is on a shelf under my 500 liter tank, and you can barely hear it at all.

I second skiltrip, the Whisper power filters don't make a sound. They're not exactly very good filters though.

:D I have two externals on my pirahna tank, a fluval 304 and a 204. Both of them are pretty quiet. I would say this is probably because the weight of the water inside the filter supresses any vibrations. A heavy and well built cabinet also helps. The filters also have rubber feet to try and stop the vibrations running into the cabinet. The only sound they make is the occasional gurgle when an air bubble gets into the inlet pipes. Other than that, they are silent. Its actualy qutie hard to tell if you have turned the right one off (for maintainence) You have to feel the pipe for the water going through

In consideration of the internal and external filters, can anyone recommend me the quietest nternal filter for my 55 gallon fresh water tank?
