Yep, I would go with the German's here... cost more money but you will usually get much better quality

I use a Rena Filstar. I have to physically touch the canister in order to tell if the thing is even on.

Same with my eheim pro, although even then it can be hard to tell

Can't hear my Tetratec EX700, even when the telly's off. I have to crouch next to it to hear the water going through.

eheim...when I'm doing routine things on my tank the only way to tell they're still running is looking at the spray bars or getting underneath the cabinet to put my ear next to it

i have 2 eheim pro II 2028's AND they were second hand
