Hi all,
I have a 76 litre tank next to my bed, and am after a very quiet filter to go in it. I would really appreciate advice from anyone with personal experience.
Thanks,
Max

generally speaking the more expensive a filter the quieter it'll be, therefore I'd recommend an eheim. all the ones I've had have been near silent. But virtually all filters will have a slight electrical buzz. Not sure what model is suitable for your tank size though, i've only ever had big ones which would be overkill!!

Eheim 2211, with the outlet below the surface.

I find my Interpet PF2 quiet, as long as like with the eheim you put the outloet below the waterline, and on this one also turn off the venturi feature.

Are you all talking about external filters, or internal ones? I don't have room for an external where the tank is

Both of those mentioned are Internal Canister filters :good:

not sure what you mean here. the Eheim is an external cannister, the Interpet is an internal, and not a cannister. even "ropey" internals are often quieter than externals, they have water to dampen the noise! but i'd vote for an external, eheim, as it gives you more tank space.

Sorry, my bad then, I thought the Eheim looked like an internal filter

i use an eheim and its so quiet sometimes you think its not even running

ooops quick edit lol didnt read all posts

I use Fluval internal filters and find them to be near silent! I have the same issue... 3 tanks running in my bedroom! (and a complete lack of being able to cope with any noise at night!) I tried a few different filters at the start but found my Fluval2+ filters are awesome. Obviously, as someone previously mentioned about another filter, this is with them running below the waterline without the venturi attached! I think they are very reasonably priced too.

In case anyone is reading this post and thinking of buying a small filter... I would NOT recommend the Fluval 1. It turns out it has a very different design to the larger versions and is rattly or buzzy depending on it's mood. I am actually searching for a viable option to fit in my small tank so might head over and look at Eheims as they seem to come highly recommended :)

Aren't undergravel filters silent? :D

Well, I haven't heard or experienced any loud filters, so sorry I couldn't help. .__.

Anyways, inwater or outof water filters?

Hi Million :)

I am running an old Stellar-60 air pump with two box filters in my bedroom tank. The pump quietly hums and the filters bubble, but it's very relaxing to listen to as I fall asleep at night.
