Hey all just a quicky: I am treating for ich...can I still do my weekly water change? If so should I still do a 20% or do more or less than that?

Thanks,
Megan

in my expereince, raising temperature helps, and yes, water changing could help and at same time wont affect ...in my experience that is

Pretty sure whenever i've used treatment for ich they've been a week course, check the bottle.
I personally do a slightly larger water change after too.

treating ICK means doing several treatments. so water changes, and a carbon filter, all help.

this will take over one week. even if you up the temp. there is still no way to get it down to less than seven days (three treatments.)

just to explain. ICK has three stages. it is only suitable to treatments.when it is in one stage (free swimming).
this means you need to treat several times. (so you get all the bugs, as they progress through their life cycle.)

any med that could do it in one treatment is either. so toxic it would kill everything, or a con. most one time treatment i have seen, are the latter.

honest guy, if the treatment says its a one time deal. leave it on the self.
quite a few people use no meds, at all, just upping the temperature and dosing with salt.

it might be worth doing a Forum search for "ICK" "white spot". the subject has been covered many times.

Thanks, and I have to leave the carbon filter out for the treatment Proxo...I was definately going to dose for more than one week! :) I shouldn't up the temperature anymore :/ I live in the desert and don't think it could go any higher (apparantly where I live doesn't seem to know that it is almost winter).

I am still seeing a few white spots on my fish. I don't know when to stop treating though is the only thing. :/

The term actually is ICH with an "H" and is short for Ichthyophthirius multifilis if you're going to google it.

Absolutely take the carbon filter OUT when treating. You can put it in after the treatment ends to trap any remaining medication.

You should treat for about 10 days if I remember. It's kind of like taking medication for yourself. Your symptoms might clear up after a few days, but you should always take all the medication your doctor gives you.

  oops. quite right.
but, as The Old Spouse say, remember to use carbon after each treatment cycle.
