I recently bought a couple of co2 diffusers (Off ebay) to attatch on the end on my diy setup. They are the same make as these.

In all pictures Ive seen with these setup, bubbles seems to be spilling out the top. I found that the cup filled with gas but no bubbles came out.

I hooked the diffuser to another piece of hose and blew and found no bubbles came out. (I hope that all made sense)

Have I bought some faulty diffusers?

Im under the assumption that i should be able to blow air through the system. I've ended up turning one of them in a bell diffuser.

It's impossible for us to blow through the ceramic diffusers, they need large pressures in order to work.
I don't believe that DIY (fermenter method) is powerful enough to work with the larger Rhinox diffusers. Only the small ones. Mostly likely as well, is that pressure is building up but it finds a leak in the system somewhere and comes out there. I have this problem with my DIY system (2 Hagen cannisters connected via tubing and a "y" piece that leads off via tubing to ceramic diffuser) and it doesn't work because it must be finding a leak somewhere although everything is super tight.

I used to use my 2000 when I had yeast setup but there were 2 nutrafins and 1 2 Ltr DIY going into it. Worked fine.

Don't believe the pictures. That beautiful spread of bubbles all the way is achieved by very very high bps that most of us won't use. For our type of bps you will get bubbles coming from one area of the disc usually above the entry to the cup from the pipe.

I had to chuckle about the blowing bit but the less said I guess the better :)

What type of Y connectors have you got?

I tried using cheap T connectors, look at the pic I just took of one, notice the ridges left over from the molding. That's where these leaked from.

Just a thought.

When I switched over to two 2 liter diy bottles, I had to use that.. that for me, was where the leak was also. So I switched back to one for now, waiting to figure out what I should do about that.

You could make two holes in the bottle that goes to the diffuser, one tube goes to the second bottle, one goes to the diffuser. Confusing? Pics to follow. :)

Tube goes from green cap to blue cap, then a second tube from blue cap to diffuser.

Really good question.:) I have used one of those in the past and suspected it of leaking, therefore went to AE and bought a proper one. Here it is.

Thanks for the replies!

So should I assume the diffusers wont wok?

Is there anyway to find out if they were woking in the first place? (Seeing as I cant blow into them;))

Try filling a PET bottle up to within a few inches of the top. Fasten your tube up to the bottle with diffuser on the other end. Then dip the diffuser in a bucket of water and squeeze the bottle hard. If there's no leaks you should get bubbles out of the diffuser.
