Heyy
Ok to start off i am hoping to get a Bearded dragon for my birthday this year. I have wanted a reptile for many years and i fell in love with these guys.
I have been saving up for along time now and my parents have said that they'll give me the rest of the money for my birthday/christmas present.

However my mum has a serious problem with it though, the idea of live crickets and locusts (etc)I could make do if i absolutly had to, but tbh i am not that keen myself.

I have looked all over the web for a solution but there isnt really anything i have found.
My local reptile store do not recommend it but they said you can buy dead crickets and other insects and feed them that if you really had to.

What do you guys think?
Is there another way?

Oh and also whats the best bearded dragon book (about overall care) out there?
And whats the best reptile/bearded dragon forum on the web?

Thanks guys you are really helping me out :) x x x

hi i have owned bearded dragons for a couple of years now,im no means a expert but bearded dragons go for live food.if a cricket is dead the beardie wont bother with it plus theres no goodness gained from eating dead pray.also crickets stink when they die, alot.im not that keen on crickets or bugs either but i do breed my own cockroaches coz they dont make a noise and dont smell and are alot better for the beardie than crickets.when a beardie get to around 15ths they slow down on eating live pray,so instead of every day they will only eat live food once or twice a week

Thankyou for your reply, i kind of thought that was they case anyway.

Can beardies really eat cockroaches? wow i have never heard of that, is it ok for the babys?
I have also often thought about the noise the crickets make but arent there silent crickets you can get? Or are they not actually silent?

And what about the book and forums, do you have any experience with that?

Thanks again x x x

beardies have a food rule which is important to avoid impactation and that is never feed a beardie anything bigger than the gap between their eyes.baby roaches would be fine for a baby.ive never brought a book on beardies so afraid i cant help u out there.one thing i will say is please do not use a coiled bulb for the beardies as ive heard theres a coating on them that can be harmfull to beardies eyes.best to get the tube type bulb and with a high uvb, mine have a uvb with 12%.change bulb every year as it looses it uvb goodness.plz feel free to pm me if u want
