I just got some black worms for my bettas today. They just loved them! Although I was grossed out at first, but I got caught up in their excitement real fast. I do have a few questions about them though.

How many do I feed per feeding/per day? I only gave them one each because the worms seem so big! I was even worried about giving a whole one to each betta.

Also I had read that blood worms can carry diseases. Is this true with black worm too? Are they the same thing?
I got my worms from a decent lfs, if that makes any difference.

I'm definitely hooked on giving them live food. Next I want to try fruit flies or daphnia.

I regularly give my Bettas live blackworms, and have never encountered any problems. I especially use them for Betta fry and for conditioning females to spawn. I have been using them for months now with no problems whatsoever.

They are not the same thing as bloodworms. Bloodworms are mosquito larvae. Blackworms are a worm, and will remain a worm.

They shouldn't be an only food choice, but 2-3 worms per Betta per feeding should be all right.

Makesure clean them with aged water everyday. If you want to be sure, soak indian almond leaf solution into the aged water when washing is the best. :) I just ordered one lbs California Black worm from junglepit.com.
OK. When we talk about culture, I am also culture red worm too in my kitchen. So easy too. They are big and you just cut them small pieces when feeding the betta. They love it. Actually it is easy to raise red worm too. Get newspapaer, sread them and wet the paper. Put into a plastic container. All you just feed them vegetable and fruit. :) I feed them grapes, strawberries, and brockery. (I can't spell right because I am sleepy)
I am also raising flightless small flies. Daphnia too. And recently mosquito larvas. LOL Makesure you don't want the mosquito to hatch. LOL Oh.... all the bettas loves it and they all said yummy....!
