I was wondering what most of you have used to successfully rear fry in the early stages of feeding and if you have any preferences to the following or something I've not mentioned.

1. Microworms
2. Betta Starter
3. Liquifry

Thanks

i have been using a combination of 1, and 2, plus vinegar eels and waterworms.

the waterworms are very similar to microworms, but i have been told they live for slightly longer in the water.

and the vinegar eels are great, they live in water, so last in the water column until eaten, so less uneaten food pollution!

i think a combination of foods is best, to provide a varied diet and ensure they are getting everything they need!

apparently liquifry is not much good fro feeding the fry themselves, but if you star adding it when the eggs are in the nest, it promotes the build up of infusoria for them to feed on.

Thanks for the info Ibble :good: So where do you get the vinegar eel and waterworm from?

mine came off ebay, but i might be able to sort out a starter of some for you if you wanted?

vinegar eels are really easy to look after, mix 1 part cider vinegar with 4 parts water add a chunk of apple and your starter culture and before long your jar will be swarming!

waterworm is cultured exactly the same as microworm

Thanks Ibble that would be great. I've been conditioning Mum & Dad and they should be ready over the weekend. I can get the Betta Starter no problem. Thanks again for your help :good:

if you PM me your address i'll get some posted to you asap. did you want some of both? and have you got the microworms sorted?

I'm only on my first spawning but i have 170 odd fry which are 4 weeks old and doing well.

I fed mine microworms, 3 times a day for the first 4-5 days and then introduced newly hatched brineshrimp once a day...increasing that as they grow.

Thanks for the info Andy. You've certainly had a great success with your 1st spawn :D . I hope mine goes as smoothly.

I've got vinegar eels but only use those for killi fry, betta fry get microworm and then progress onto grindal worms in morning and then granulated food on occassion.

Thanks Amerce.......it's nice to get a broader view of what people use :good:

sorry if ive misseda post but who are you planning on breeding???

Hi......I'm breeding Taro & Sahara from my signature below

i was going to say i hope your breeding taro because he is just amazinh hes so pretty you should have some nice babies with those two.
may i ask what are the dividers you have in your tank are they bought or have you made them???

Thanks FishyAsh. We made the dividers from old plastic wallet folders, cut them to size and then drilled holes through them. A really cheap way of making them :D

wew they look so good the black really makes you males stand ont in your photos
