The announcement for the new banner ads did not bother me as I block ads on most sites. However, I am a bit concerned about the following statement on what advertisers get;

Post commercial information freely in an individual forum set exclusively for you! As a Gold Sponsor you receive a forum where you can post freely. The great benefit of posting in this forum is that your posts will appear every time our members click on the 'View New Content' menu option - which is the single most common way of navigation our members use... it allows them to quickly review all the posts that were posted since they last visited the website.

I rely on that view new post button and have done so on sites for a very long time. While I am not favorably disposed to ads on fish sites, I do not have to click them nor to view them if I do not want to.

However, the above quote can have two different meanings, one which is acceptable and the other which would not be. The acceptable meaning is that when a sponsor makes a new post in their specific vendor sub forum, this would show up in new posts. Since it would indeed be a new post, it would certainly qualify as being a new post that shows up with all the other new posts. However, the second meaning one might take from the quote would be that a sponsor's posts would always show up in the new post section whether or not they were actually new. So the same not new posts would appear over and over. That would most certainly not be acceptable to me for one.

I would ask site management to clarify this if they would be so kind.

Also, I am just going to post this question here, instead getting a gold membership can we just donate? I would love to donate but Im not one who wants all this extra stuff :)

A question from me as well, where would donations go to the community, or the owners pocket? I think the community could use some help in running the forum, tcamos in particular.

Let's say a store named Bill's Fish becomes a sponsor. They get a forum of that name under sponsors where they can post about deals, etc. When they make a post it shows up in the new post area. You can ignore it or click on it if the item is of interest. It means nothing more than that. Pretty much it's what happens if any one makes a new post.

Ellie - As for donations and things like that...it's kind, but not something we want members to do.

sawickib - We are hoping that sponsors will do contests for members and giveaways but they aren't required to and that's going to be up to them.

How do I block ads on my iPhone? It's driving me nuts cos I can only see like half the screen!

TT have you looked in the app store for something like adblock or adblock plus? May not be exactly the same thing but there's bound to be something similar I'd have thought.

TTA, if a sponsor's post stayed there forever, then as the sponsor added more and more posts, the New Content area would be taken over by the sponsor's posts, and there would be no room for the new content. That rather defeats the object of a New Content area.

No... That would leave me with no iPhone and a crappy phone. :p

Hmm, that seems to have worked. Thanks mama! :)

A crappy phone? Sacrilege! :)

I don't use an ad blocker at all and I don't find the ads intrusive...yet! Doesn't take up much room on my phone either.

It could be a pain if it does what TTA suggests/hopes it could do about the new posts. I love that button up there and it would be a shame to see the top entries clogged with ads...

I find that the ads make my computer run slower personally, but thats because its a piece of junk. I also keep getting ads for fish bowls. Tsk tsk, no thanks :p

All the old posts did not have to be in the view new posts list, just have one permanent link to the sponsor's sub-forum always show up even when there were no new posts. Or have the sponsors old posts persist for some time - a week maybe two. but i did not want that to be the point of my Q.

tcamos answered what I asked. And you will note that I did state that all new posts belonged in the list when one clicks for it. I may not like seeing posts for sponsors products/services but I have no problem with them as long as they follow the same "rules" as the rest of the communities posts. And that was all I was asking.
