So I set up a new betta tank today. The only other tank I've set up is our 75 gal. I remember when I set that up, bubbles, bubbles EVERYWHERE! But they went away. When I do w/c inthe big tank, I get bubbles too, but they don't last long.

I've had this tank set up for nearly 12 hours, with the air pump going....why do new tanks get bubbles all over everything? Just curious why this happens.
:dunno:

Super saturation of oxygen bubbles... There are more bubbles if you use warmer water to fill up your tank because of the low threshold of oxygen. The warmer the the water the more bubbles and vice versa. I think it is kind of attractive or awhile... Somtimes the bubbles even stick to the fish... :p

Tap water is full of timy air bubbles, especially if you didn't take the aerator off. On a small tank, you can gently bump the sides and that will shake some of the ones in your substrate loose. The ones on the side of the tank you can remove by running your hand over them. A cleaning mitt works great to remove them. That's what I did on my new 75 gallon.

I always assumed it was the salt I put in my tanks. How interesting. I do use warm water to fill my tanks, I keep a 5 gal. bucket of declorinated water with a heater in it for when I do water changes. I like the effect the bubbles make, its purdy.

The faster you run the water into your tank, the more you'll have in there too. Well, if you go right from the tap into your tank. If you're pouring from a pitcher or jug into your tank, if you pour slowly you'll have less too.

My fish always end up with bubbles all over them when they go back into the tank..
Archie looked like Santa Claus one day because he had so many of them on his face.

I don't know if there is any truth to it - I get bubbles in my tanks for the first little while, but I heard somewhere that the bubbles can actually be bad for the betta. If they stick to his/her gills for a long time, it can apparently burn the tissue.

Again, no idea if it's true, my boys don't seem bothered by the bubbles. Anyone know?
