While at the grocery store today, I started talking to the cashier about fish... she asked me if I knew anything about them- and I told her a little. She then proceeded to tell me about these little black worms she has in both her goldfish and guppy tanks. She can't get rid of them- and she said she's tried tons of different ways... any idea what they are? How can she get rid of them?

Sounds like flukes to me, you will probably need some kind of Methylene Blue solution to get rid of them, i know the King British No.10 covers things like, but make sure there is nothing left in the water from other treatments first.

Are the worms on the fish themselves or just in the gravel? How big are they? They could be leaches...Or jsut a harmless type of worm living off excess food in the tank.

She said they weren't on the fish- only on the tank. The fish will try and eat them, and then spit them back out. From what it sounded like, they are in the gravel and on the sides (inside) the tank.

Has she got an infestation of these, first thing I woud do in anycase is to cut down on the feeding somewhat. then get in there with the gravel vacs etc.
