I have a 30 gallon thats gonna be very slightly over stocked soon.
I have a whisper 30 that came with the tank but i dont really trust it

I was wondering what do you all reccomend i do for a filter upgrade?

Should i get internal or external or hob or what?

And which brands do you specifically recommend?

Thank you in advance

go for an ehiem external.
they cost more, but you get what you pay for and with ehiem your realy do

Sorry everybody i dont think i have the kind of money for an Eheim

After looking around on the internet, i think a good HOB is all i really want, unless someone knows somewhere i can get an eheim for next to nothing.

So what HOB filters do you all reccomend?

thats almost 90 US dollars, i dont think i want to spend that much on a good filter until i get a much bigger and much nicer tank.

In that case i would go for a fluval 4 plus or an Eheim aquaball internal - your looking at £20 - £25.

So you recommend the internal over the HOB?

Does anyone else have any input?

I can suggest one of the fluval internal filters. They are relatively inexpensive, but appear to do the job. A fluval 3 or 4 should be good for a 30 gal. I've just upgraded from a fluval 2 to a fluval 3 in my 20 gal. There was nearly three times the space for filter media. I've been able to put both my existing sponges and the two new sponges in the filter at the same time while the new sponges mature.
My only gripe was you often had to kick start the impeller on my old one to get it going once it had been in the tank for a while, but if it's kept clean that shouldn't be a problem.

If you plan on overstocking your best bet is two filters, each set up to do what it does best. Get a canister for bio filtration, Eheim 2213's are on sale here; http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod...mp;N=2004+22777

Then get an AC 50 & set it up for mechanical filtration, once again Drs F & S has a good price;http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3610&N=2004+22769
