I know it may sound silly since they are so cheap (I can get them as cheap as .20 a piece at one of my LFS)- but I thought I'd give it a try for fun (I love ghost shrimp). I'm setting up a 'fish farm' in a spare room in my basement. I'll probably have upwards of 10 tanks set up within the next month (several 10's, a 20, a couple 55's).
Anyways, I've been told ghost shrimp must have brackish water to successfully breed. I have several pregnant ghost shrimp in my 120 freshwater- but supposedly the babies won't survive without a brackish environment.
I've seen in more than one place that the proper level of salinity for ghost shrimp babies to survive can be achieved with nothing more than a little aquarium salt. Is this true? Or do I have to buy marine salt? I'm going to just get a bunch of pregnant ghosties and put them in a 10 gallon with a sponge filter and air stone and see what happens.
