first test the distilled water with a TDS meter and make sure it is pure, buffer it, then you should be fine.

Distilled should be fine. Testing it is not a bad idea. The only thing I differ on is that it should be a pH of 7.0 and therefore should NOT need buffering. Make sure that the container says pure and no additives. SH

I always buffer my top off water, this helps to not reduce the buffereing ability of the aragonite sand in the tank when you add it. I would definitely test the TDS of the distilled water, much of the time copper piping is used in the distillation process which means you can be adding some BAD stuff to your tank without even knowing it. Never assume that "purified, distilled etc." water that you buy from the store is actually pure, ALWAYS test it before dumping using it in your tank, all it takes is someone at the place of production to get lazy changing filters or make a mistake and you could be adding some really bad crap to your tank.
