Hi, i am considering upgrading to Sky+ HD.
I travel a lot with a caravan and i usually take sky with me. I simply put my Sky dish on a tripod, and connect it to my standard box with the satelite cable.
I know Sky+ HD uses 2 satelite cables, so my question is would it work with just using a single LNB and cable? (Just using dish input 1)

Or will it need both inputs connecting to work?

I am only bothered about recieving a picture (not HD), and not recording or pausing etc etc.

Thanks, Aaron.

I have emailed sky but the reply i got:
The cost of a new system if you are a new customer, including the minidish and Sky box can depend on your chosen Sky package and will include the installation of the system. With this equipment you will also receive a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty.

I can see how that related to my question  I even said in my message i am upgrading and i ticked a box stating i am a current sky user :shout: :shout: :/

Thanks.

i believe you use 2 satelite dishes for 2 tuners, if you only had the one you wouldnt be able to record and watch at the same time i dont know if it would work though :/

do you mean 2 LNB's?

not bothered about recording or any of the advanced stuff, just as long as you get the same service as a standard sky box.

Thanks :good:

i think you should be fine as long as you have the first tuner connected to the satalite dish. might be worth ringing amstrad or sky

Indeed if you have a single input then it will work as a standard sky box. The second input goes to the second tuner and allows you to decode 2 videos at the same time so that you can record so without the second input it will lose this ability. You do need to connect your sky box to a phoneline every few weeks as its actually in your contract to have it connected, sky will remotely deactivate your card if you don't connect it to a sky box every once in a while. Having said that some of the older firmwares on sky boxes don't do this remote activation if they don't recieve the phoneline message from sky but by connecting it to the phone line you update the firmware to a newer version and then this policy may be put into effect. Its a chicken and an egg situation.
