Today I got a Queen abaresque! I'm so excited, I saw it in my lfs the other day and said "on saturday, im getting that fish" despite the £24.90 price tag :X I'd say he/she is about 2 and a half/ 3 inches something like that. He/she is acclimating now. Pics to come! hopefully you can tell me if its a he or a she too. :good:

Congrats Geo7x

That's great news. I look forward to pics of your new baby. Might be able to sex it, but they normally best left to settle for a few months. If there are a few together in the LFS, they may not be displaying their sex yet, due to dominant individuals.

What are you keeping him/her with??

:D

im keeping him/her with a shoal of hengeli rasboras and a few corydoras catfish. No pics yet, he/she is hiding away in an awkward place, maybe later this afternoon.

edit: please check back in 2 mins, just got pics

ok, here he/she is. looking pretty skinny at the moment compared to the beauty in your sig alex and carmen! He/she seems to have pale blotches on him/her, is this anything to worry about? It looks like yours has it too a&c so maybe its just nothing. Please excuse the algae

Hey Geo7x

Gorgeous Arabesque you have there. I'm leaning towards male, but I think you'll have to wait a few months, let he/she eat more and then see. The beaut in our sig is our lovely girl Arabella. She is a stunning specimen. We have a male too, but he isn't as photo mad as she is. She normally poses lovely for me, while Arry tends to swim off, with a screaming look on his face  .

The white blotch's look like stress marks. Nothing to worry about, once settled they become less apparent. Our pic of Arabella looks like she has those, but looking at the original I see it was just debris floating by  .

What have you got to feed your sweetie pie?? Our two love JMC catfish pellets, Serra catfish chips, frozen shrimp from Asda (obviously defrosted and only once every 10 days or so), blood worms and our female adores blanched courgette, cucumber and potato.

You may find this beaut tends to hide away now for quite a while. If you're worried about whether he/she is feeding, only put food in once lights are out. They are nocturnal, but I have found, eventually with both our L260's they come out more during the day, especially when they learn that food doesn't only come once lights out.

Good luck and congrats again. Great little plecs to keep and so amazingly beautiful.

:D

P.S. Your little one isn't skinny, if there was sever weight loss, the belly would be sunken and I don't see that in your pic. It has the body shape of our male, that's why I tend to think male. But leave it a few weeks or months and post some pics from the top, side and belly if possible and we'll see then ;)

I'd lean towards male too...

does your camera have a macro function (a little flower icon)?

thanks for the info a&c, hopefully those stress marks will go with time :) I will get some more food for it soon, forgot today, but I have catfish pellets and sinking tablets that I use for the cories so they can share for the moment lol. I get live bloodworm on a regualr basis too for the BBGs in a seperate tank, and now I think of it I have some frozen bloodowrm in the freezer. He/she has been hiding away, apart from that one moment when I got the pics, but hopefully he/she will get more condfident. Thanks again.

edit: yeah it does smithrc, its just i had to snap these quick while I had the chance lol
