What does every one do with thiers when they are not in use? I am going to set up my old tank for a quarintine tank, but I'm not sure what to do with it when I don't have fish in it.

Gabe

I put a betta in my quarantine tank when it sits for awhile. Whoever is graced with the spacious tank temporarily is very happy. :D They aren't very pleased when they have to come out, tho. :sly:

Just curious...where do you put the betta when you populate the quarantine tank with other fish? I'm currently upgrading to a 20gallon tank so that I can use my existing 10g tank as a quarantine tank.

"ALWAYS RUNNING" mine always has water in it, heat , filtration and light and at least one resident , I never can tell when I'll be getting a new fish , not that I buy on impulse anymore . I never know when I'll come across the " Holy Grail" what ever that maybe at the time . My Q-tank currently has 5 glass shrimp , they stay as others come and go . My Q tank is mainly for new arrivals or fish that have been bullied , and need to mildly recover .

I put my betta in my quarintine tank when it is not in use. He liked it when I first got him, so I let him stay in there. I have an divider, so I put him in my 10 gallon, when I have new fish.

Thanks guys, I guess I can get another Betta now lol. I do have somwhere to put him when I need to quarantine.

One more question, how long do you usually quarantine new fish for?

Thanks!

Gabe

I have my quarantine tank on the floor in the spare room with no lights and there is no fish, but will fill it with some feeder guppys. might just end in a big feeding evertime I buy a new fish.

I only have my fish in the quarantine tank for about a week or two, if its a shy fish 2 weeks, if not a week should be ok.

I usually keep my fish in quarintine for about 7-10 days, That seems to work really well. No problems yet!

It's in a closet. Quarantine/hospital tank is tank, what is only used when you need it. If you keep it running, it's not a quarantine tank more, because there is bacteria, maybe parasites etc. already...

In quarantine tank, there is no bottom material, no plants... Only some plastic plants that are easy to sterilize if needed, some cup(s) as a cave for fishes, some rocks... But not any other material that cannot be sterilize (like wood).

Well, very common parasite, ICH need more time to develop. You just have been lucky! Some other diseases takes much more time. Fish should be kept in quarantine tank at least 3-4 weeks, longer is much better.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I will keep my fish in longer next time!

I empty my quarantine tank when it's not in use. If I need it, I just do a water change on my regular tank, and use it to fill the quarantine tank. It works fine!

I put him back in his 2 gallon. I haven't bought new fish in ages. He's still in there with a divider and another betta. I can remove everything when needed. They have about a half gallon more room to play in for now. :)

I usually empty it when I'm not using it. If I need it, I do a water change on my main tank, and then use the old water to start the quarantine tank. It works fine for me.
