Hey all. I am looking to add some cories to my tanks, and I perfer to quarantine new fish. The tanks I have planned for the cories have sand, but the quarantine tank has rather large gravel. I know cories should have sand, but would gravel be ok for just a couple weeks? I really don't want to have to switch to sand with yet another tank. :X

I'm no cory expert, but have kept quite a few and from what I understand, large gravel is not desirable becasause 1) its harder for them to get food, 2) sand has no sharp edges for them to injure their barbels/mouths on. But as long as you think your cory can still get the food (using large flakes and sinking disks especially made for bottom feeders) and as long as the gravel isn't sharp, I would think you would be fine quarantining him for just a few weeks. In fact I use a fine, rounded, gravel right now and my corys are thriving.

As long as your gravel is suitably rounded then it would be good. It is commendable that you are wishing to quarantine them.
