I understood that. I was just saying I see no reason for doing that. I was also talking about when cycling multiple tanks at the same time as it is easier to cycle the filters all together in one tank than to manage multiple individual tanks all needing to be cycled.

But most of what I wrote dealt with the bacteria being dormant and what wakes them up is the return of ammonia. So the logical conclusion is when one knows they have fish coming soon, one should dose ammonia into the Q tank which contains dormant bacteria some days before the fish arrive. That will do two things. The first is to wake up the bacteria. The second is if they have been dormant too long, they will start to reproduce. Byt doing a fe doses of ammonia they should increase their numbers pretty fast.

And if one has a decent amount of live plants in the tank, less bacteria is needed. If you have enough plants, then a dose of 1 or 2 ppm of ammonia is fine, No plants, and try 2 to 3 ppm depending on how many fish will be going into the tank. I just reactivated a tank into which I moved 48 small plecos. It was fishless for a few months but I had been dosing ammonia about twice a week. When I new iI needed to be adding those 48 fish I added a bit of Dr. Tim's One and Only and dose ammonia a couple of times. The tank and the fish are doing fine. T be sure UI tested for ammonia 2 days after the fish went in. the tank contains no live plants but uses a uniquiqe filter design having a Matten filter at both ends.
