Python No Spill Clean And Fill

I have been reading this thread and started wondering about a few things. Everyone seems to mention using tap water to refill their tanks which makes this an idea product for them to empty and refill only thing is I don't use 'tap' water as I have a water softener. The water I use is reverse osmosis well water that is stone cold even in the summer so it's pretty much a necessity that I warm the water before refilling.

So I am wondering if this is worth spending the money on as I can use it for the empty but not refill... mind you I always get water on my floor when I take out with buckets. I usually fill buckets a couple of days ahead and let them sit to room temp and add those slowly. But there has to be a better way for me. I really want to move up to a 80-120 gallon tank but I don't see how I can at this point -- too much work

Any ideas??

Thanks,
Pepper

Hi Pepper,

Most people who use RO water for water changes store it in a large food grade container. The container has a heater and a pump, to heat and circulate the water.

Regarding the Python, you can use it for draining, but if you buy a pump and can fit it with a 3/4" garden hose adapter, you can then pump the water from the container into the tanks.

Very good vid crazie.eddie!!

If anyone is looking to buy one in the UK go for the Lee's Ultimate Gravel Vac. It does exactly the same thing as the Python but is way cheaper. Bought mine from everythingforpets.com. Only £26.36 for the 7.6 metre model.

Agree... cheers for the vid eddie.. perhaps your not so crazy after all.. :D

Do you still only put the amount of dechlorinator in the tank for the amount of water that you have changed... ?? I take it you don't dose for the full tank volume..

I hear some people overdose due to the dilution of the new tap water????

I only put enough de-chlorinator in for the amount of water I am changing.

Still changing water using buckets at the mo though cos I only ordered the Syphon on Monday.

What about dechlorinating the water.......

dechlorinator does not work instantly.... it takes about an hour, ignore any claims they make on the packaging.

I disagree with this.

I think it is Tolak (or possibly Torrean) who had someone come to an aquarists meeting where a chemical was placed in the water to make free chlorine visible. The dechlorinators were shown to work almost instantly.

Regardless of that, I know that many keepers of large and sensitive fish (such as rays) just pump water out and then link the hose to the cold tap and throw some dechlor in the tank and fill away. If it works on a ray tank then I reckon it's fine for most peeps.

What kind of taps does this work with, are all taps standard?

We have a mixer tap in our bathroom so this would be great if it worked with that

Use a Hozelock multi tap connector. Bought 1 off ebay for £3

This should fit most bathroom & kitchen mixer taps. I'm using one on my kitchen mixer tap.

The syphon simply screws to the bottom of the tap connector.
