So I've emailed python products support about this but while I wait I'll toss this out to you guys in case there are any self-made usa plumbing experts out there. The only faucet I think I can use if I get a python is a european style grohe. It has a standard looking aerator that screws in and I measure the outside diameter to be about 7/8 inch (the male part of the aerator that screws up into the faucet spout. I'm hoping the 69HD brass adapter that Python makes will fit, but I have no idea if the Grohe (I don't know the model and can't find it on Grohe site) is metric or not. Not knowing what the plumbing standards are I poked around the web and it seems that (at least in the us) most aerators come in "regular" or "small/junior" and nearly all are "regular." The 15/16" cited for regular seems close enough to my 7/8" measurement that it might be what they're talking about.

I know this is a long shot but if anybody has any bits of info that might help me I'd be grateful.

When I bought my python, the adapter that came with it worked perfectly on both my kitchen and bathroom faucets. Not certain about the european style though. Surely they make an adapter that will work on those too. You could most likely find one at Home Depot or Lowes too.

Thanks RD, (by now you know I tend to over-research things, especially hardware, its my entertainment.) As I'm writing you I just received word back from Python:
"Your faucet is the only one our product cannot be used with. Our adapters work with 99.9% of the faucets in the US. There is no adapter that will work with your faucet that we know of."

Sheesh! Now I will have to mount one of my marathon research/trial and error sessions to prove them wrong. If I can't find something at Lowes/HomeDepot to work I'll see whether the plumber's parts desk can come up with something.

Luckily I can do the main initial fill from the garden hose (after flushing it out thoroughly of course!) and since its only a 28G, a 20% water change would only be a few buckets and I can do that until I get this worked out. I'm in the unusual position of the the tank being near an outside back door so can use the garden hose and can siphon directly out onto the outdoor garden plants. The main benefit for me would be the ability to adjust water temp at the tap and then refill with that temp directly into the tank.

well i use a python all i did was take the fitting off the end run the hose to the bath tub and tye it aroung the taps then the gravel cleaner part i throw that in the bin and got the type of gravel cleaner you move up and down in the water a few times and the syphon starts its self

this works much better than the normal python were turn on the tap to get it started hope the hose doesnt come out of the tank or you flood the place then turn the sill valve with water spraying everywere

then i just run a hose in from the garden to fill the tank back up

With it only being 28 gallon, you could easily just change 5 gallon at a time. Considering displacement of water by substrate and decorations, you will probably only have about 25 gallon or water so 1 bucket would be 20%. A shame it won't work though. I guess you'll just have to buy a new faucet.

I'll be d*mn'd if I'm going to make it that easy. I'm going to install hot and cold running water right above the tank!

Well RD, despite the Python guy sending me that definative sounding statement ("your faucet is the only one our product will not work with"(!)) I stuck with the research... I figured out that there were a couple of standards for the little aerators that go on the ends of faucets in USA and it just seemed more and more unlikely that the Grohe faucet, despite its name of "Eurotrend" would not match the standard.

I decided to risk a couple of dollars on the little brass adapter from Python and just try it. Today I am VERY HAPPY because it worked! The brass adapter fits perfectly and now I'll be able to buy the rest of the Python parts to put together my own little custom Python nospill sort of system. I pays to be persistent!
