my experience is that guppies will eat anything and don't mind scavenging food off the floor of the aquarium. a week of living off algae tablets and shrimp pellets should do them ok.

Hm, have you tried putting any freezedried foods in the feeder like daphinia/tubifex/bloodworms/krill? You should be able to find them at your lfs .

thanks for the suggestion of freeze-dried. Afraid it is too late to try to find anything at my lfs now as my train leaves at six tomorrow morning. I think I will have to try the tetra sticks. At least they contain no plaster, which can only be good.

For the record though, cold-blooded animals can go a lot longer without food than us warm-blooded guys without any serious side-effects, so for future vacations I do think it would be ok to just turn their temperature down some and leave them without food for a few days
