Hi all! might be getting pygmy cories soon, as im setting up a planted tank! just wondering if these fish are hard to breed? And what other things have people found that these fish prefer/need?

Thanks all,

Ben.

they are pretty easy to breed and often will breed within a few months of being in the tank. Just feed them well and keep their water clean and they should do the rest.

give them something with a smooth surface...even sand. i have sand and a few rocks that are flat and smooth. they like to just chill on these surfaces because rough things make them uncomfortable on their bellies.

also if you get sand they like to snoop around in it finding food. i feed mine algae wafers and shrimp pellets. very neat little corys

ok kool thanks guys. I was planning on having some sort of proper plant bottom, Then fine pea gravel on top, I was also planning on making a bed of riccia fluitains at the front of the tank. Would this be ok for them? I dont personaly like sand so i could try and get the finest gravel possible for them.

Ben.

They really like it best if the sand is where they can dig through it easily. The pea gravel is not needed for the cories. What looks like gravel in this picture is a very fine sand. Particles are about 0.5 mm in diameter.

These fish are C. hastatus, not C. pygmaeus but there is no telling which of the three pygmies your LFS will carry.
