hi guys :) ,
have recently noticed that one of my gold gourami has now got a purple stripe running all through his yellow body part of his face has also been inflicted by the couler change, it looks like bruising!
what does this mean? my initial thought was that he is dying so i checked for ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels- all are fine as is pH none of my other fish have got this. please tell me what this means

cheers, tetrafan

Well, he said Gold Gourami, so I'd assume its a Gold Gourami. ;)
Funny.
I have a Gold Gourami for about 7 months once, never had any problems with him. Maybe he's sick? I don't know what it would be though. :dunno:
Your Gold Gourami is yellow? Thats funny in itself.
Do you mean light brown? Mine was purely dark brown with thin light brown stripes.
You may want to post this in the Gouramis section..

Theres gotta be somthing wrong with your test kits if they say the ph is 0, fish just wouldn't survive in a ph like that and im sure its pretty imposible to have a ph that low anyways.
Any additional info you can give would be very useful, like...
a. What exactly are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels as with a ph reading of 0 things sound a bit odd?
b. How long has the tank been set up and have you used any meds recently, suffered any water quality issues, agression between the fish, heavy water changes or anything else that could cause stressful conditions?
c. Did the discoloration appear shortly after a water change(between 30mins and 8hrs afterwards)?
d. What is the temp in your tank plus have you lost any fish recently in the last 2months and of what causes or anything else you can tell us?

Its posible its septicemia, but septicemia tends to be more bloodshot looking...

I interpreted that as "so i checked for ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels- all are fine, as is pH. none of my other fish have got this."
Oh what a difference punctuation makes

0 pH is perfectly possible... negative pH is possible, actually, but nothing could live in that. You'd have some pretty horrific acid burns coming into contact with a substance with 0 pH

honey dwarf gauramis, or colusa chuna (sota) males morph thier colors when they are ready to breed, not only with brillient reds and oranges but also thier throat and lower fins running along thier abdomen (lack of scientific term) will turn dark, even black.

females, however, may display a darkening lateral line during the same time.

are you sure its a honey gauramis or honey dwarf gauramis?

ok...
info for Tokis-Phoneix:
a-first of all i meant that the pH level is ok not 0. ( 6.9 actuly)
b- the tank has been st up with fish for 3 months, no water issues heavy water changes and i dont think it is stressed because i think they wiuld all be that purple couler if they were stressed.
c- no. it happeneed about 24 hours afterwards.
d- no fish lost in the tank at all and the temp is- 76/24.5 cant really think of anything else apart from it is a heavily plante tank.

info for ethos:
no it is a goldy yellow.

info for mattbeau:
nope. defenatly a gold one.

phew!
i just rang up my uncle- ultimate fish guy and he said that the fish are just showig ther true couler now that they are settled into thier tank, i also rang up lfs and they said the smae :D thank god.

I think a PH of 0 would eat through the glass and everything else it touchs. Thats a hell of a fish tank and quite an amazing fish to have a purple stripe if thats the case.
