feel daft for asking this but hear i go, i see some tanks on hear with a fine curtain of oxy bubbles, i have tryed over the years to get the same effect to no avail spent loads of different pumps stones bubble curtains and tubing etc but still have large bubbles..................how do i reduce the size of the bubbles?
the curtain tube produced smaller bubbles but not the effect ide like and it kept comming unstuck and i havent come accross a pump thats QUIET and has a knob on it to turn it lower so com on guys how do you get those lovely fine bubble curtains..................without a pump that sounds like a pnumatic drill

The finest bubblies I have seen were produced by a bubbler that was fabricated from limewood. The output was like a curtain of mist. The analogy is absolutely backwards but the limewood really does diffuse to very fine bubbles. A lot of people use limewood to diffuse CO2. Getting CO2 into solution is water is very difficult without a reactor/diffuser however, limewood is very effective for this purpose.

Try taking some of the bubble tubes you own, and wrap them in tank safe materials to see if they produce a finner bubble, such as a fabric, or such? Think of something that when you squish air through it under water produces a fine bubble mist? I know some swiming trunks material will do that.

Hay what about making a small bag out of swiming trunk fabric and just pumping air into it, will eventually become full enouigh that the air will force itself out through the material. Perhaps over time the bubbles will increase in size, but I think its worth a try.

I have a Hagen Air curtain, this produces tiny bubbles and can be put in any shape you like. they are a reasonable price, and come with weights.

Lime wood.....never heard of it sounds like the stuff i need or should i say want lol but where do you get it from and would it harm my fish?
I cant recall the name of the air curtains i used over time some where plastic others a paper looking tube you pricked holes in yourself the last one was a clear plastic tube made like the air tubing you get and had holes already in it but never stayed still lol As for swimming trunks hmmmmm or little materiel bags of air i can see what you are getting at ...................that could work but how would you attatch it to the hosing?

Just Google "limewood air diffuser and you get lots of information. The filters are actually made from citrus tree wood.
