Hi....
Have just read an answer to "William" from Ryan on a previous topic regarding winter pond depths and freezing.
The depth of my pond varies from 24" to 38".
Would i be correct in saying that i would have to 1st,turn the pump pressure right down.
2nd,turn the pump on its side just under the surface.
3rd,attatch a pipe from the waterfall outlet and feed it also just under the surface.
4th,allow one of the airstones to continue running at the bottom of the pond.
5th,maybe put in an empty water bucket (turned on its side) for the fish to "shelter in"
Not sure if the above is correct, but i think im on the right tracks???? :dunno:

During winter its a good idea to have the pump rised of the bottom a few inches as a warm area of water forms on the bottom of the pond, where most of the fish will group, you don't want the pump to disturb this. An oxygen pump helps keep water moving and prevents thin ice sheets over the pond and also helps to melt thicker ones quicker. It may be a good idea to keep the waterfall off during the winter and have the pump feed water back in below the water line to ensure it is not affected by frost etc.
