Hi, i've got two GSP in a 30g tank. All is good and well. However - I am re-doing my basement and just finished painting. The carpets need to go in and I'm going to have to move the tank. I've never had to do this before so I'm wondering how I should go about making the move, it will be to the other side of my basement. Maybe 15 feet. Can i still move it with 70% of the water drained, and can i reuse that water assuming I keep it contained? I dont want to loose all the good bacteria, etc. Can the fish stay in this 30 some % while i move? Its not that I lack common sense, I just want whatever is best for the fish, so asking fish experts seems to be the way to go. Any process that anyone's done before/suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

ps.
(i no longer have a smaller tank to keep them in while i make the move)

Moving it with water in can be dangerous as it can put pressure on the glass and crack it but if you're moving it on the cabinet all the bottom should still be supported so it might be ok.
As long as the water doesn't splash around too much I'm sure the puffers will be ok. But if you're really worried you can always just put them in a pot of tank water move it then put them back when it's moved.

Yes you can use the same water but as far as I know it doesn't contain that much beneficial bacteria this will be on the solid bits. Like gravel and ornanments etc.

Good luck

I guess the reason many people start brackish is because they accidentally buy brackish fish for their fw tanks

What does brackish water have to do with my moving the tank? I started a brackish tank because I like puffers

Thanks for your help

How long will the move last?

If its only for a couple of hours at the most, you could get a large bucket filled with your tank water, heater and an airstone, move in the puffer...drain tank, move, refill etc...
